Is the BoxSmith output really 1:1 scale?

Yes. The SVG is declared in millimetres (1 unit = 1 mm), the DXF uses millimetre units and the PDF converts at exactly 72/25.4 points per millimetre. The free 60×60×100 mm sample has a 60.4 mm front panel (60 mm inside plus 0.4 mm board).

Which file should I send to a laser cutter, Cricut or print shop?

Laser cutters and plotters such as LightBurn and Cricut take the SVG or DXF, where CUT and CREASE are separate layers. Print shops take the PDF or SVG with the BLEED layer. Packaging CAD such as ArtiosCAD or AutoCAD takes the DXF.

No. BoxSmith runs entirely in the browser. Logos are read locally and never leave the device.

Why does board thickness matter for a box template?

Accepted Answer

Every 90 degree fold uses up roughly one board thickness, so templates drawn for paper close short on real board. BoxSmith grows panels by the board thickness, sets dust flaps back by 1.25 times the thickness and leaves 2 times the thickness of roll-over clearance so the first sample closes.
